Criticism is critical in baking. No, I definitely don’t want someone to come up to me and say “Your cupcakes tasted disgusting.” Ouch. Now that would really hurt. For some of you who don’t really bake and usually just go to a bakery for pastries, I have a question for you: Do you have ANY idea how much time a baker spends in perfecting her cookies and cupcakes and then bringing it to school the next day to get feedback and make her friends smile?
I wish. Continue reading
What does it feel like when someone underestimates you? Like when someone completely underestimates you and they fail to realize that you have so much potential in you and you can be capable of achieving great things? I wonder how Antigone could stand back when people called her “just a frail girl to look after her father.” For those of you who don’t know who Antigone is, have you heard of the book “The Oedipus Cycle” by Sophocles? When I first started reading that book, it made no sense to me at all, but as the book progressed, I began to admire the qualities of Antigone. She strikes me with her courage and willingness to give up her whole life to guide her blind father who is exiled from his city. What is really astonishing is that she does this for her father because she loves him and she believes it is her duty as a daughter—what about her brothers? Well, they don’t even care and are too busy fighting off one another. When one of the brothers does come to visit Oedipus, it is for a personal gain. How can they be so vain and heartless and then feel sympathy and pity towards Antigone for enduring prolonged pain and hardship? This prejudice was mainly because she was a girl and had no one to support her. Whatever happened to equality?
Also pronounced Faluda, this is a sweet Indian drink -kind of like a smoothie- that my mother made with dinner a couple nights ago. This particular flavor is my favorite because it’s strawberry and has little seeds in it. I used to abhor this drink when I was a kid because the little seeds looked like eyeballs and everytime I would take a sip, I’d feel like I was ingesting about a hundred googly-eyes!
I’m glad I still don’t have the phobia, because this drink tastes even better with ice-cream. Vanilla works best but you can put any flavor you like. Just don’t add chocolate ice-cream because that alters the flavor completely.
I urge you to try to make it sometime because it just takes 5 minutes prep time and 30 minutes in the fridge to chill. Sometimes my sister and I freeze it to make ice-cream pops on really hot days.

Last Sunday was another day in my life that I realized parents know a lot more than I do… in about just everything . Even food combinations. I’m a type of person that really likes sweets such as cupcakes, cookies and chocolate! Except for honey. I don’t hate it, but for me, honey+bread= uhhh…I’d skip that.
With the cold weather creeping in, there is something about cupcakes that makes me feel warm on the inside. After being so busy with school work and studying, I decided that for a little break in between, I would make Chocolate Pecan cupcakes.
