Re:Framed Danish Cream Cheese Pastries

Wow…its been a while since I last blogged…..

well I’m going to make up for it by posting more often and this is going to be a fun food filled week!

I’m going to share with you my all time favorite Danish Cream Cheese Pastry recipe 🙂

So this is actually eaten a lot in France and guess what book’s trending in my English right now?

This book is one of the best mystery/betrayal books I have ever read. Now don’t get me wrong I love reading and  I’ m found of books that absorb me and leave me emotionally effected days (this one did just that!) but I love it EVEN more if I’m reading a book and then all of a sudden I get inspired to make a dessert relating to a country in that book.

So in honor of Dantes (he’s the Count of Monte Cristo!!) visiting France for the first time, I made Danish Cream Cheese pastries

So here are the visual steps

 

#1~Gather all the ingredients. For this recipe you will need Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Puff Pastry Dough, a dough cutter, and your favorite jam.

#2~ Cut one square dough into half so it becomes a  triangle.

#3~ Spread a layer of Philadelphia cream cheese. Make sure its not too thick or else it will over fill when they bake.

#4~Jam time! Choose your favorite jam….strawberry is the best and it goes along so well with cream cheese 🙂

#5~ Just spread the jam on the layer of cream cheese.

#6~Now fold diagonally so you have a smaller triangle. And with a fork secure the sides of your pastry. Remember to poke some holes on the top of the pastry for the hot air needs to escape.

#7~Now line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the pastries two in. apart. Coat the top with egg yolk so they turn golden when they bake.

#8~The step we have all been waiting for….EAT ‘EM.

The pastries taste good when they are warm so eat immediately. Not too too immediately because the jam is super hot coming out of the oven and it will burn your tongue (I’m saying this from experience).

 

I’m sure I’ll get asked:

“Where can I buy the puff pastry dough?”

Well, I brought mine from an Arabic store (all Arabic stores carry them!), but you can get them at the bakery too.
